Polishing compounds

Polishing compounds

Polishing compounds

Polishing compounds are the working part of the polishing process. The mop itself is the carrier for the compound so the importance of your choice reflects in the finish you achieve. It is equally important that you choose a compound that is coarse enough to remove previous finishing marks. This will allow you to progress to the next stage in achieving your desired finish.

Coarse Cut & Ferropol M.G.

Coarse Cut

As the name implies, this is the coarsest of the compounds available. Mainly used on metals and suited to Sisal mops its aggressive cut easily removes the scratches left by belts P240 and finer.

Ferropol M.G. (medium greasy) is by far the most popular of the cutting series of compounds. Not quite as aggressive as coarse cut, Ferropol MG produces a slightly finer finish.

Fastcut

Fastcut

Fastcut is very similar to Ferropol MG but is not as greasy. The grease assists in holding the compound onto the mop, but slightly retards the cut. This compound leaves a less greasy residue on the polished product.

Multishine

Multishine

Multishine polishes metals to a mirror brightness when used on a cotton or calico mop. Because of Multishines ability to cut and polish, the workpiece being worked need not be in a perfect pre-polish condition.

Hyperfin

Hyperfin

Hyperfin is dry in composition and leaves a clean finish, allowing the polisher to better inspect the job for defects. Best used after a perfect cutting or pre-polishing operation. Polishes all metals (particularly stainless steel) to a high brightness when used on a soft cotton mop.

This is a very economical compound for the final finishing of stainless steel, chrome and a range of non-ferrous metals. It is clean to use, fast cutting and clears well, effectively removing the fine marks left from earlier polishing stages.

Green chrome

Green chrome

Green chrome is used for mirror-finishing and has minimal cut. Best used after a perfect cutting or pre-polishing operation. Polishes all metals to a high brightness when used on a soft cotton mop.

Polac

Polac

Polac is the ideal compound for final polishing of polyester and plastics to a clear finish. If the product being finished has deeper scratches that are difficult to remove, a first step compound prior to Polac would be Tripoli or Hyperfin. It should be noted that on some porous surfaces Tripoli may leave a slightly stained look due to its reddish colour.

Grease bar

Polac

Grease bar is mainly used as a lubricant and reduces the binding of abrasive belts and saw blades. It also retards the sharp cut of abrasive belts giving a softer, finer finish.
