PCD (Polycrystalline diamond) is a synthetic diamond product that is produced by sintering together selected diamond particles with a metal matrix using highly sophisticated high temperature and high pressure technology. PCD is by its nature, high in uniform hardness and also more abrasive and shock resistant in all directions as compared to natural diamonds, due to its random orientation of the diamond particles.

PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) is an artificially synthesised material. Its hardness is exceeded only by diamond.

PCD & PCBN cutting tools are used world-wide in the aircraft industry, automotive industry, iron and steel industry, precision watch industry, and electric and electronic industry.

The importance of dressing and truing abrasive grinding wheels can never be overemphasised. Dressing will restore the exposure of the grit and the cutting ability on the wheel surface. Truing will eliminate any unwanted "run-out" once the wheel has been mounted.

In general there are four types of dressers:

• Single Point: a selected diamond crystal set in a metal matrix in a steel shank. Various qualities of crystal and carat size are available
• Multi-Point: two or more diamonds in a metal matrix to provide multi diamond points for dressing larger and wider abrasive wheels
• Form: high quality mono-diamond crystal set in a metal matrix in a steel shank and then ground into various shapes such as conical point with radius, facet or profile
• Impregnated: a mixture of selected diamond particles in a metal matrix. Provide a long tool life, very economical and ideal for use on larger and wider wheels

These tools are made up of a basic single or multi-layer of diamond or CBN particles bonded to the tool surface using a nickel matrix. This bonding allows the manufacture of various tools with different forms and contours. Electroplated diamond / CBN tools have high exposure of particles, provide high stock removal and are free cutting on other materials including ceramics, hardened steels, FRP and composite materials.
